It's a mixed bar — heavy on hottie gay men of course (excellent place to play the gay boyfriend game) but a popular spot for femme lesbians and hipster straight couples as well. Tends to be a 25-35ish crowd. It's your best bet for a scene any night of the week. The best time to look for beautiful women: Saturday and Sunday afternoons. You'll find them downing mimosas ($9), frou-frou martinis ($12) or the best raspberry mojitos ($12) around. Never a cover. Usually a line after 10 or so on weekend nights but it moves quickly.

Next door you'll find Here Lounge, the bar with the name that's sparked many a conversation of "who's on first" variety. It is very, very similar to The Abbey — the same trendy-but-laidback atmosphere, a space that mingles indoor and outdoor to take advantage of LA's rockin' weather. It's smaller though and a little "clubbier" with a small but often packed dance floor in the back. Here has become hugely popular with the younger, trying-oh-so-hard, party-girl lesbians — think The L-Word club scenes — especially on Heat Thursday and Truck Stop Friday nights, events that have caused the girl crowd to sometimes spill over to Saturday nights as well. Rumor has it that Portia picked up a girl or two at Here in her pre-Ellen days. Often a $10 cover.

Tired of the club scene? O-Bar is an elegant, upscale space that draws a more professional 30+ crowd, a pretty even mix of gay and straight mostly singles. The girl crowd here isn't consistent, but O-Bar has quietly become a gathering space for LA's yuppie lesbians on Tuesday nights. And it's worth it when they show. After all, how often do you see hot lesbians in power suits? Yum.
